CAA | Center for Artistic Activism

I completely agree with Steve Lambert on this

CAA is founded by Steve Lambert and Stephen Duncombe

Their Mission is:

The Center for Artistic Activism is the home for artists, activists and scholars to explore, discuss, reflect upon, and strengthen connections between social activism and artistic practice. We facilitate projects and strengthen networks. Our goal is to make more creative and more effective citizen activists.

Their Principles are:

  • We believe there is an art to activism.
  • We believe that activism is too often flat and colorless…and it doesn’t need to be.
  • We believe an aesthetic eye and a creative hand are essential for building a better world.
  • We believe that everyone has an artistic life they can bring to their activism.
  • We believe that cultural transformation is necessary for lasting change.
  • We believe in Utopia, not as a destination but as a direction.

The letter 1 |

I believe every illustrator should have some knowledge of type and should be able to make his/her own type if their illustration so requires.

Why don’t you try and post some here:

Teaching Illustration

Steven Heller collected illustration courses for different levels. These courses can be inspirational when writing your own lessons as a teacher or by ‘taking’ them as a student.

The World must Change

A fantasticly wonderful book about the history of Dutch Graphic Design and Idealism

Open Design School

I started with following their Twitterfeed (@OpenEducation)

You can also take part in the conversation/discussion/movement by adding to their Google.doc.

“The Open Design School is a movement, a school of thought and a virtual institution which advocates design education in the spirit of open source and connected intellectual and creative generosity. We are asking like-minded creatives who are passionate about open education in the art and design sector to come forward and be part of a revolution. We are calling for authors, bloggers, designers, developers, graduates, students, professionals and academics to help us transform the way designers are being trained. Let’s redesign and open up Design Education, together.”

Design education a controversial topic?

20 Jahre KISD – Ein Film

“This film presents the reflections of the 15 professors of KISD about the history of the school, the Kölner Model, the students, the problems and future challenges. A project with the same name was run by Prof. Dr. Michael Erlhoff and Stefan Terlinden in winter semester of 2010.”
